about

"Soap in a Bathtub" was written shortly before I signed to Island records in 2004 and this re-invented version was released as a vinyl/CD/download single on Transistor records in May 2005. Arguably the "hit single" of the album, it got me my first features in the national press and significant national radio play including "Single of the week" on BBC 6 music and even made it across the pond where it became "Tune of the day" on L.A tastemaker station KCRW.

This new found success started to result in people actually coming to gigs and led me to purchase a band van off ebay to tour the country with the Arctic Monkeys. Sadly the little red van blew a gasket within a week and brought everything to an abrupt halt. Still, fun while it lasted.

Froze my ass off making a little lo-budget video for the track with the lovely Sheffield based Helene Michaelides. It basically involved me running round pretty much naked in various places in and around Sheffield during February.

Artwork by the Wonderful Phil Gribbon aka DesignByGecko. It's a multi-layered and surreal piece which reflects the song well. 10 points for you if you can find the meaning of the exotic asian symbols.

lyrics

I only touched your love
As the tips of my fingers tried to clutch your love
I'm sick of this soap in a bathtub love
I need something to hold (ah ah)
I feel deluded
As once again I am eluded
And everything is left unconcluded
I need something to hold

And we know you're there
Somewhere in these murky waters
If you just showed us where
You'd bring to life all that you taught us
Do you just sit and stare?
I know that you're longing to be found
Isn't that what you want?

I adore your love
But it's snakes and ladders looking for your love
Fakes and blaggers claim to be your love
I don't want the fools gold (ah ah)
But I'm in in danger
I'm hungry, angry, lonely and a stranger
I'm livin la vida loca lone ranger
I need something to hold

And we know you're there
Somewhere in these murky waters
If you just showed us where
You'd bring to life all that you taught us
Do you just sit and stare?
I know that you're longing to be found
Isn't that what you want?
Isn't that what you want?
